GESP also has a research component to help strengthen the knowledge base in gender equality and a program on gender-based violence. The UK Department for International Development (DFID) is contributing an additional $2.9 million to this project. More than 4 million people heard community-level roll-out campaigns on gender-related laws, gender-based violence, and reproductive health. CIDA led the Development Assistance Group on Gender. Technical support was provided to the government to develop gender equality legislation (National Gender Policy, Prevention of Domestic Violence Bill). These activities have contributed to strengthening the capacity of government departments, district assemblies, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to mobilise donor resources and strengthen Gender Equality networks and partnerships, and to improved coherence in gender equality programming by government, NGOs, and donors.
