CA-3-A033033002 2026-07-14T06:32:38 This is the second project in a series that provides support to the Government of Mozambique’s efforts to achieve the goals and objectives of its Health Sector Strategic Plan. The project forms the cornerstone of CIDA's support for the achievement of development objectives in health in Mozambique. Through this project, CIDA works in close collaboration with other donors and the Government of Mozambique to strengthen the effectiveness of its aid. Efforts are focused on effective, transparent, and accountable country systems; increasing coordination and harmonization among donors; and reinforcing mutual accountability. Sector support projects such as this one also help foster greater policy dialogue between CIDA, government, and partners, which helps to reinforce efforts for effective, focused aid and long-term development results. Continuous monitoring and evaluation of this project is undertaken in coordination with other donors. The project aims to achieve not only nation-wide progress in the health sector, but also progress in other areas. It aims to achieve improvements in the Government of Mozambique's ability to manage and administer its health sector, particularly improvements in transparency, financial management, and accountability. These improvements are an important factor in ensuring that the Government of Mozambique can maintain the progress achieved through this project. Closed 2009-03-27T00:00:00 2018-03-31T00:00:00 Mozambique 100.00% Government of Mozambique - Ministry of Health Health policy and administrative management 10.00% Basic health care 40.00% Basic health infrastructure 10.00% Infectious disease control 10.00% Malaria control 10.00% STD control including HIV/AIDS 20.00% 56249858.01 Results achieved as of January 2014 include: (1) the number of HIV positive adults receiving antiretroviral therapy increased from 156,668 in 2009 to 444,171 by the end of 2013; (2) the number of children receiving anitretroviral therapy rose from 13,510 in 2009 to 41,400 by the end of 2013; (3) the number of new graduates in health specific career increased from 1,525 in 2009 to 2,129 in 2013; (4) the number of maternal and child health workers available per 100,000 inhabitants increased from 61 health workers in 2009 to more than 68 health workers by the end of 2013; (5) the percentage of health facilities with a maternity waiting home for pregnant women increased from 40.8% in 2009 to 49% by the end of 2013; and (6) two new sentinel posts for monitoring nutrition were established, increasing the total number of posts from 38 in 2012 to 40 in 2014. These have contributed to an increase in the use of maternal health services by women and youth with the percentage of women giving birth in a health facility increasing from 55% in 2009 to 69% by the end of 2013. The project has also contributed to an increase in the use of child health services.
