Its purpose is to provide targeted support to South African civil society organizations to address HIV/AIDS in a gender responsive manner based on human rights principles and in line with the HIV/AIDS/STI Strategic Plan for South Africa 2007-2011. Many of the organizations were able to increase their capacity in a variety of areas due to support received from the Fund. Civil society organizations implementing these sub-projects have strengthened capacities in project management, increased ability to facilitate access to gender responsive HIV/AIDS services, increased awareness of the importance of working collaboratively among themselves and with government in addressing the challenges of HIV/AIDS.
