CA-3-A033870001 2026-08-16T06:32:45 Following the earthquake of January 2010, the project was redesigned to align more fully with Haiti's Action Plan for the National Recovery and Development, as well as CIDA's priorities. The project now aims to protect children against violence and abuse of their rights and to support the inclusion of youth, marginalized groups and vulnerable populations in the recovery process. The project activities include: support to the Office for the Protection of Citizen's Rights in Haiti; support for girls and women who are victims of violence; support for the registration of children via the national registry system; support for incarcerated youth; and dissemination and awareness workshops to stimulate wide participation of young citizens in the national reconstruction of Haiti. Closed 2008-10-09T00:00:00 2012-09-12T00:00:00 Haiti 100.00% Rights and Democracy Democratic participation and civil society 50.00% Human rights 50.00% 2534143.91 Results achieved as the end of the project (June 2012) include: In the area of protecting youth from violence and abuse of their rights, 88 girls received medical and psychological services; 15 girls who were victims of sexual assault received legal support; 22 girls received vocational training; 2,224 people were made aware of gender-based violence through an awareness-raising campaign; 4,035 students were informed about gender-based violence; 50 visits were made to minors and youth at seven civilian prisons; five reports were made on the living conditions of inmates in prisons; and 15 minors (both girls and boys) received legal support. In the area of strengthening youth civil registration,17 human rights committees involving 187 people were trained on the right to one's identity, the importance of registering births and identification cards, and the characteristics of various records of civil status; 2,257 people were made aware of the importance of having identification papers; and 1,550 people received support in registering and obtaining identification. In the area of participation in the national recovery process, 450 young people met weekly to discuss local and national issues and six awareness-raising days were organized; 212 young people were trained in civic education, and 483 youth participated in four civic education forums; and 362 people participated in five national thematic workshops on legislation pertaining to the rights of women, children, and families. These results contributed to supporting young people and vulnerable populations to protect themselves against violence and abuse of their human rights.
