CA-3-D000784001 2026-07-10T06:32:42 This project supports reform efforts in Myanmar by building the capacity of organizations to generate, share and utilize research knowledge to inform decision making. It strengthens the ability of research institutions and think tanks to undertake strategic planning, communications and engagement with policy makers, human and financial resource management, and resource mobilization. The funding supports research relevant to Myanmar’s priorities. Support is provided to strengthen the capacity and sustainability of local institutions such as think tanks, civil society organizations, and research institutes. The project also works to improve capacity on how to access and use research and evidence to inform planning and policy making. Project activities include: (1) delivering training to improve the ability of 3-5 non-state institutions in strategic planning, communications and engagement with policy makers, human resource management, resource mobilization, and financial management; (2) providing funding for research on key issues related to democratic transition, economic and social development; (3) delivering training on research methodology, analysis and evidence-based policy making; and (4) organizing local knowledge networks and roundtable events with a variety of stakeholders to share knowledge, foster dialogue and inform policy making on key issues related to democratic transition, women’s empowerment, and economic and social development. Results achieved as of December 2021 include: (1) 93 think tank members, parliamentarians, and research thought leaders (including 56 women) trained and mentored to actively engage in policy dialogue and decision-making processes relating to gender-responsive democratic transition and economic development, (2) a gender and development course was introduced at the Yangon University of Economics, and provided over 100 graduate students and faculty members with training on public policy with a focus on gender equality, and (3) 25 policy processes and debates were informed by project-supported think tanks 6 by funded research.
