CA-3-D004442001 2026-09-04T06:32:51 This project is part of Global Affairs Canada’s International Youth Internship Program (IYIP), funded by the Government of Canada's Youth Employment Strategy. The IYIP is designed to offer Canadian post-secondary graduates the opportunity to gain professional experience in international development. As part of the Young Lawyers International Program, the Canadian Bar Association sends 128 interns to 10 countries. They acquire transferable employment skills, primarily through activities such as conducting legal research and analysis, writing, managing client relations, and liaising with justice sector stakeholders. The young interns also participate in public education and advocacy activities such as the promotion of human rights, either through policy advocacy for human rights and the rule of law, or the provision of legal services to local populations, including the most vulnerable. Results achieved as of the end of the project (March 2023) include: (1) 94 Canadian youth completed internships in international development in 12 countries, with 34 done virtually; (2) 95 Canadian youth participated in pre-departure training and field activities in international development. It also includes varied activities to help them transition to the Canadian labour market or further their education; and (3) out of the 80 responses received to a six-month post-internship survey, 66 reported finding employment or returning to their studies.
