<title>Support to the Commission of Truth, Justice and Reconciliation for Peace and Stability in Mali</title>
<description>This project supports the Truth, Justice and Reconciliation Commission (CVJR) in order to implement the priority areas of its response strategy and action plan for stabilization in Mali. The initiative is aimed at building the CVJR’s capacities, especially those of the units responsible for truth seeking and investigations, supporting victims and repairs, gender-related issues, studies, documentation and publications. The CVJR is therefore better equipped to prepare a final report and to make recommendations based on sound methodologies and rigorous preliminary investigations, analyses and studies. The project supports the implementation of the Algiers Peace Agreement and complements the role played by the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali in its efforts with the CVJR.</description>

<expectedResults>The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) the CVJR is better equipped to propose measures to the government to repair the harm suffered by victims of serious human rights violations, especially women, girls and other people in vulnerable situations, and to prevent the resurgence of conflicts in the future; (2) the CVJR has increased capacities to investigate and shed light on the human rights violations committed during conflicts, including gender based violence; (3) the CVJR has increased institutional capacities, notably in terms of protecting testimonies and other data collected with regard to the serious human rights violations committed during conflicts; and (4) the relationship of trust between the CVJR and the victims of serious human rights violations committed during conflicts, especially women and girls who suffered gender based violence, has improved to facilitate participation in investigations, hearings and other work performed by the CVJR.</expectedResults>
<resultsAchieved>Results achieved at the end of the project (August 2019) include: (1) better equipped the CVJR to establish facts and determine reparation measures and guarantees of non-repetition for victims, particularly women, girls, and other people in vulnerable situations; (2) supported the CVJR to form the Investigation Unit of the Research and Truth Subcommittee. Also increased its capacities to investigate trough training, strengthening and elaborating an investigation strategy. This helped to shed light on the human rights violations committed during conflicts, including gender-based violence; (3) increased institutional capacities of the CVJR, notably in terms of protecting testimonies and other data collected regarding the serious human rights violations committed during conflicts. This is done by adopting and implementing a database security policy and digital archiving software for the database containing the testimonies of victims and witnesses collected during depositions. This resulted in 90% of the IT unit staff able to apply the knowledge acquired through the project; and (4) improved the relationship of trust between the CVJR and the victims of serious human rights violations committed during conflicts, especially women and girls who experienced gender-based violence. Also, improved relationship of trust helped to facilitate participation in investigations, hearings and other work performed by the CVJR, resulting in the participation of 7,479 victims to CJVR activities.</resultsAchieved>
