CA-3-P005348001 2026-08-13T06:32:35 The project aims to develop the agroforestry systems based on coffee and cocoa in the South Department of Haiti. This department is particularly vulnerable to climate change, thus aggravating environmental degradation and directly impacting agricultural activities and the entire value chain. In order to ensure the sustainability of the agroforestry systems ("creole gardens"), the project also seeks to improve the capacity of producers to adapt to climate change; encourage the creation of skills on agroforestry adaptation to climate change through the adequacy of training curricula; and strengthen the governance capacities of local and departmental authorities on adaptation to climate change. Project activities include: (1) installation and innovative and sustainable management of 250 hectares of new plantations by more than 800 families under the leadership of youth and women; (2) strengthening the economic empowerment and social recognition of women involved in these agroforestry sectors by promoting their access to strategic roles and functions; and (3) improving the capacity of value chain actors in organizational management, commercialization, and marketing to ensure better access to niche markets by improving the quality of the commodities produced. Results achieved at the end of the project (December 2024) include: (1) increased the profitability of 2 cocoa companies and 2 cocoa cooperatives by 20% and increased the profitability of a coffee cooperative by 20%; (2) 3,820 people improved their understanding of actions that can help mitigate climate change risks; (3) stored 1,180 t/ha of carbon in agroforestry systems; (4) converted 372 ha to agroforestry systems; (5) 35 women accessed to decision-making positions in entrepreneurship and governance; (6) provided, for the benefit of a municipal structure, a development plan adapted to climate change in relation to the agri-food chains.
