<expectedResults>The expected outcomes of Canada’s contribution to this pooled fund include: (1) enhanced capacity to develop and deliver gender-sensitive security, justice and social services to women at risk, including refugee women; and (2) improved gender norms to recognize the importance of gender equality and the role of women in decision-making and in peacebuilding.</expectedResults>
<resultsAchieved>Results achieved as of December 2020 include: (1) the project helped the security sector agencies (Jordanian Armed Forces-JAFand Public Security Directorate-PSD) increase the number of uniformed women in the field: JAF women officers increased to 1.4%, and PSD women officers increased to 5.92%. Jordanian women’s representation in UN Peacekeeping Missions increased substantially in PSD from 3.6% in 2019 to 21.1%. Also, JAF increased its female representation from 13% to14%; (2) the project supported the PSD and the JAF to develop and start implementing their Gender Mainstreaming Strategies (GMS) for 2021-2024. In addition, with guidance from the project, the PSD and JAF created structures to oversee and report on the implementation of the GMS; (3) 113 judges, prosecutors and police officers from the Family Protection Department received training on how to handle gender-based violence (GBV) cases; social and legal and protection issues faced by refugees and vulnerable Jordanian women especially early marriage, inheritance rights and rights related to marriage and divorce under the Personal Status Law; (4) with UN Women’s technical assistance, the General Budget Department and the Jordanian National Commission for Women initiated a high-level discussion on introducting the Gender Functional Classification in various national budget preparation guidance. This supports the efforts on gender-responsive budgeting made by the project to date; (5) four women’s rights organizations (the Jordanian Women Union, Arab Women Organization, the Jordan National Forum for 1325, and Arab Renaissance for Democracy and Development) received funding to develop and implement awareness campaigns that address gender-based violence and provide service to gender violence survivors; (6) 11,612 women survivors of violence have increased access to GBV services, including psychosocial assistance, legal advice and shelter in Amman and seven other Governorates. Among them, about 20.5% received legal consultations, 78% received psychosocial consultations, and 1.5% (171 women survivors) benefited from quality shelter services in Amman; and (7) in collaboration with civil society partners, the project enhanced the visibility and progress related to Jordan’s implementation of its National Action Plan on UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women Peace and Security. The total outreach of 285 social media and outdoor campaigns reached over 6 million people.</resultsAchieved>
