CA-3-P009821001 2026-08-16T06:32:45 This project aims to support Caribbean States in the implementation of the Caribbean Firearms Roadmap to address illicit proliferation issue of firearms and ammunition for a safer Caribbean region. Project activities include: (1) supporting the drafting of four National Action Plans in collaboration with the national focal points in each State; (2) carrying out two national courses focusing on maritime security; (3) carrying out three webinars for judicial and investigative police, public and police prosecutors, and police officers; and (4) offering one regional refresher Armoury Management Course. The project benefits the law enforcement community, the men and women of the following countries: Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago. Results achieved as of May 2024 include: (1) as part of efforts to reinforce regulatory frameworks governing illicit firearms and ammunition, 9 states approved their National Action Plans (NAP), while the remaining ones continue to be engaged and supported in their drafting processes; (2) delivered 18 specialized training courses to reduce the illicit flow of firearms and ammunition, benefiting more than 409 participants (including 119 women); (3) improved security measures and inventory managements practices in forensic science laboratories through the creation of a new inventory system, and the procurement of Containerized Evidence Storage Solutions and comparison microscopes; and (4) created a custom-built reporting platform to report on States’ progress on their NAP’s approvals, monitoring and evaluation. Also delivered Webinars to enhance States’ use of the platform. Finally, a Caribbean oversight committee and monitoring mechanism of donors, partners and states is established, and stakeholder meetings are held to review progress made in NAP implementations, engage in the adoption of a common Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Framework, and coordinate international assistance in support of the Caribbean Roadmap.
