<title>COVID-19 Vaccination Delivery and Health System Strengthening</title>
<description>The project aims to increase equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines by enhancing vaccine delivery and uptake among high-priority groups and integrating COVID-19 vaccination into routine health services. It also seeks to strengthen health systems and improve gender-sensitive water, sanitation and hygiene systems in 11 countries. Project activities include: (1) supporting immunization planning, monitoring and data systems; (2) providing waste management, cold chain and logistics support for vaccination; and (3) supporting quality essential gender-responsive Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health (MNCAH) and infection prevention and control.</description>

<expectedResults>The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) increased equitable distribution and delivery of COVID-19 vaccines and strengthened gender-sensitive routine immunization in 11 countries; and (2) strengthened health systems to engage vulnerable and priority populations with gender-equitable COVID-19 vaccination and prevention outreach in 11 countries.</expectedResults>
<resultsAchieved>Results achieved as of December 2024 include: (1) improved vaccine and health service coverage in Bangladesh, Colombia, Côte d’Ivoire, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Ghana, Haiti, Jamaica, Mozambique, Nigeria, Senegal, and Tanzania. Out of the 11 countries, 3 of them achieved routine vaccination rates, nearing or surpassing pre-pandemic levels. In the DRC, 19.06 million people (35.3%) received at least one COVID-19 vaccine dose, 1.19 million (2.2%) received 2 doses, and 16.92 million are fully vaccinated. Among priority groups, 55% of seniors (3.75 million), 41.8% of people with comorbidities (6.32 million), and 40.9% of frontline health workers (488,104) are vaccinated. In Bangladesh, a community-centred primary health care approach increased facility-based deliveries to 82% in Rohingya refugee camps; (2) undertook vaccination catch-up campaigns to reach zero-dose and under-immunized children in Bangladesh, Côte d’Ivoire, Haiti, Mozambique, Nigeria, and Tanzania. For instance, UNICEF supported vaccination efforts that reached 40,833 children and adolescents and 26,770 adults with vaccines in Colombia. In Senegal, nearly 7.29 million children are vaccinated against measles-rubella, achieving a national immunization coverage of 98.8%; and (3) rolled out the Water and Sanitation for Health Facility Improvement Tool (WASH FIT), a risk-based management tool for health care facilities, in Bangladesh, Colombia, Haiti, and Jamaica.</resultsAchieved>
