Project activities include: (1) organizing a comprehensive program to enhance fact-checking and verification skills within the Ukrainian journalistic community; (2) establishing a network of media literacy clubs across Ukraine, focusing on educating and empowering active citizens to critically assess media content and identify disinformation; and (3) conducting a public awareness campaign on media literacy and fact-checking to empower the broad public to critically evaluate and verify the information. The project aims to benefit Ukrainian journalists, media professionals, and a diverse range of individuals, including women, men, girls, boys, and non-binary persons from different backgrounds and communities. Terminating 2024-01-30T00:00:00 2026-02-28T00:00:00 Ukraine 100.00% Non-Governmental OrganisationINTERNEWS UKRAINE Media and free flow of information 50.00% Cyber security 50.00% 930000.00 The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) increased adoption of sustainable, gender-sensitive fact-checking practices in Ukrainian newsrooms; (2) empowered key multipliers to continue spreading media literacy and critical thinking knowledge in their communities in a sustainable way; and (3) increased capacity of the broader public to evaluate and verify information critically by conducting a public awareness campaign on media literacy and fact-checking. Results achieved as of July 2025 include: (1) improved media literacy for 36 Media Literacy Club (MLC) leaders and 120 volunteers from 12 MLCs. Following 62-day training sessions, participants demonstrated a significant improvement in media literacy. 79.5% reported an increased ability to distinguish between reliable information and misinformation, and Kahoot test scores improved from 40 to 45% pre-training to 70 to 75% post-training; (2) established and activated 12 MLCs in 12 regions of Ukraine, within civil society and educational organizations. As a direct result of the project, 11 clubs began conducting media literacy activities for the first time. The Kamianske MLC also held one media literacy event during the reporting period; and (3) provided data on the percentage increase in media literacy awareness in the next reporting period, following the completion of participant surveys.
