Description

The purpose of this project is to provide health education and disease prevention programming for the Miskito people of the North Atlantic Autonomous Region (RAAN) of Nicaragua through a partnership with the Metis National Council and the Association of Indigenous Women of the Atlantic Coast (AMICA). This is achieved through a training program for trainers from 10 communities, workshops, knowledge exchanges, the creation of a health network, and the dissemination of information on maternal and child health. This project is funded through the Indigenous Peoples Partnership Program (IPPP), a pilot program that supports the development priorities of Indigenous peoples in the Latin America and Caribbean region. The IPPP supports initiatives conceived both by Indigenous organizations in that region and by their Canadian Aboriginal partners. The partnerships created through the IPPP contribute to the sustainable development of Indigenous peoples in Latin America and the Caribbean through an exchange of knowledge, experience, expertise, and existing models.
