Description

This project seeks to reduce poverty in Senegal more rapidly by ensuring the availability of up-to-date data on poverty and gender inequality. The initiative seeks to contribute to more evidence-based policy development to reduce poverty in Senegal. It also aims to strengthen the analytical capacity of the statistics office, the national development strategy monitoring unit (Unité de coordination et de Suivi de la Politique Économique), think tanks, universities, and the Ministry of Education, among others. Canada is supporting this initiative being implemented by the World Bank as a component of Canada’s budget support for the education sector in Senegal.

Expected results

The expected intermediate outcomes for this project include: (i) more-informed decision making on the part of the Government of Senegal and civil society; (ii) strengthened analytical capacity in the statistics office, the national development strategy monitoring unit (Unité de coordination et de Suivi de la Politique Économique), key sector ministries, think tanks and universities; and (iii) improved debate on poverty and gender inequality based on more reliable data and with greater media involvement.
