Results achieved

Cumulative results achieved as of the end of the project include : ( 1) An assessment by a local expert of the performance of the industrial, manufacturing and private sectors in Ethiopia in recent years, and of the relationship between this performance and the Government of Ethiopia's development policy framework. This assessment was an input into the analytical work undertaken in preparation for a proposed revision of CIDA's 2009 Ethiopia Country Strategy. The proposed revision, which is moving forward for approval in 2011/12, involves adding Sustainable Economic Growth to CIDA's thematic priorities in Ethiopia in order to better align with the country's PRSP and to address significant weaknesses in its overall growth pattern over the last decade. The analysis funded under CPAF provided the core rationale for CIDA's proposed Country Strategy revision. The report was delivered to CIDA's satisfaction in January 2011. (2) An assessment of the gender equality dimensions of private sector development in Ethiopia. This analysis was an input into the analytical work undertaken in preparation for a proposed revision of CIDA's 2009 Ethiopia Country Strategy. The assessment looked at the role of women in private economic activity and the potential for private sector growth to contribute to greater gender equality in Ethiopia. The report was delivered to CIDA's satisfaction in February 2011.
