This project aims to strengthen income generation and promote maternal and child health, nutrition, hygiene, access to services, and sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) in 14 municipalities in Chuquisaca, Bolivia. The project beneficiaries are primarily rural and indigenous women and men and municipal governments. Project activities include: (1) support for increasing family enterprise profitability; (2) adopting good health practices related to maternal and child health and SRHR; and (3) strengthening municipal governance in health and local economic development through improved management, coordination and leadership. Empowering rural and indigenous women in economic enterprise management is an important objective of the project.

The expected outcomes of this project include: 1. Improved practices in nutrition, hygiene, clean water, sanitation and health, with emphasis on sexual and reproductive health, which promotes the exercise of the rights of women and children (girls and boys) and that are adopted in co-responsibility between men and women in indigenous rural communities; 2. Increased income from family businesses, generated in an environmentally responsible way and empowering women to control and access resources in vulnerable indigenous rural communities in selected municipalities; and 3. improved provision of municipal services that promote the health and rights of women and children (girls and boys), as well as inclusive economic development for women.

Results achieved at the end of the project (March 2023) include: (1) obtained the participation of 900 men out of an initial target of 600 in field schools, in order to apply practices favorable to the health of women and girls; (2) involved women of 1872 family businesses in economic decisions after their participation in the training program; (3) trained 1872 women and 1935 men in agricultural production; (4) 1,227 women obtained basic training in accounting and management; and (5) trained 1095 women in the art of speaking in public with confidence and 1282 others for their participation in decision-making concerning family income.
