Project profile — Improving the Health and Well-Being of Women and Adolescents in Southern Senegal

The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) increased accessibility, quality and design of sexual and reproductive health services; (2) improved demand for sexual and reproductive health services by women and adolescent girls; and (3) strengthened use of sexual and reproductive health findings and data by the health sector and decision-makers.

Results achieved as of March 2023 include: (1) reached 763,156 adolescents and youth ( 98,166 girls and 53,237 boys) by Behavior Change Communication activities to have the skills and knowledge to make free and informed decisions about sexual and reproductive health and rights; (2) 175,481 women aged 15 to 49 became new users of family planning; (3) 1,931 cases of gender-based violence (GBV) were reported; (4) 35,753 adolescent girls and women benefited from GBV prevention and management services; (5) 164,632 young girls and boys benefited from sexual and reproductive health services; (6) provided the country new system for managing data on gender-based violence (GBV), piloted in the Tambacounda region thanks to project funding; (7) 44,030 pregnant teenagers aged 15-19 received iron and folic acid prescriptions in health facilities; and (8) equipped 22 structures to provide multi-sectoral care for victims of gender-based violence, in line with standard operating procedures, including legal, medical and psychosocial assistance, and support for social rehabilitation.
