Description

The project aims to reduce unintended pregnancies and improve women and girls’ access to youth friendly, life-saving reproductive health services, including modern contraceptives and comprehensive post-abortion care (unsafe abortion is a major cause of maternal death). Project activities include: (1) recruit and train outreach teams in medical emergency management, family planning, comprehensive post-abortion care, cervical cancer screening and preventive treatment to deliver youth-centric outreach services in public and private health facilities; (2) refurbish selected centres and procure medical equipment and supplies, including vehicles, mobile beds, auto rickshaws to increase access to sexual and reproductive health services and products; and (3) undertake advocacy campaigns targeting “community gatekeepers” and regional and national level decision-makers focusing on operationalizing the guidelines of and increasing investments in adolescent reproductive and sexual health services to increase support for the sexual and reproductive health and rights of women and girls.

Expected results

The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) improved access to high quality sexual and reproductive health (especially family planning and comprehensive post-abortion care) products and services among women and girls in Tanzania (especially youth-friendly service provision); and (2) improved utilisation of sexual and reproductive health (especially family planning and comprehensive post-abortion care) services by women and girls in Tanzania.
