Description and results

This project provides support to the UNAIDS Inter-Agency Task Team (IATT) on Education, which was created in 2002 to support accelerated and improved education sector responses to HIV and AIDS. The IATT on Education aims to achieve its mandate by promoting and supporting good practices in the education section related to HIV and AIDS; and encouraging alignment and harmonization within and across agencies to support global and country-level actions. The funds support the mandate of the IATT on Education and the second publication of their Global Progress Survey.

Results achieved

Results achieved as of December 2012 include: (1) an international symposium, hosted by the Commonwealth Secretariat in London, was organized to review the initial findings and policy implications of the 2011-2012 Education Sector HIV and AIDS Global Progress Survey from 39 countries; (2) data collection and analysis of the global progress surveys of 39 countries was completed and education sector engagement in national HIV responses was assessed; (3) an extensive literature review was completed and a corresponding set of communication tools were developed to support advocacy for greater support to the education sector response to HIV; (4) a satellite event was organized at the 2012 International AIDS Conference in Washington, DC, to review good policies and practices in education sector responses to HIV; (5) two presentations were held at the 18th Conference of Commonwealth Education Ministers in August 2012 in Port Louis, Mauritius, on skills-based health education, including HIV; and (6) more than 2,000 e-versions and several hundred hard copies of IATT publications were disseminated to stakeholders throughout the world.
