Description

The Partnership for Maternal, Newborn & Child Health, hosted by the World Health Organization, is a partnership of over 450 organizations from seven constituencies: governments; UN and multilateral organizations; donors and foundations; non-governmental organizations; healthcare professional associations; academic, research and training institutions; and the private sector. PMNCH provides a platform for the alignment of Partners’ strategic directions and to catalyze collective action to promote universal access to essential interventions for women’s and children’s health.

Expected results

The expected intermediate outcome for this project is: strengthened knowledge, innovation, advocacy and accountability among PMNCH (Partnership for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health) partners.

Results achieved

Results achieved as of December 2012 include: producing an annual report on “Analysing Commitments to Advance the Global Strategy for Women’s and Children’s Health”. This report is an important accountability tool for tracking commitments to the Muskoka Initiative to accelerate progress toward reducing maternal, infant and child mortality in developing countries, and the broader engagement on the United Nations Global Strategy for Women’s and Children’s Health, an international effort to reduce child mortality and improve maternal health. In 2012, the Partnership for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health also produced knowledge summaries synthesizing the best available evidence on nutrition and on reaching child brides with health services, as well as an economic rationale for investing in the health of mothers, newborns and children. This knowledge summary was distributed widely during the launch of the first annual International Day of the Girl on October 11, 2012. The Partnership also established a multi-constituency working group of partners, which has taken the lead in identifying critical advocacy opportunities and developing evidence based positions for the way forward following the current Millennium Development Goals. The Partnership also co-hosted the Asia Pacific Leadership and Policy Dialogue for Women’s and Children’s Health, held on November 8, 2012 in the Philippines.
