Description

This project provides predictable funding levels over five years to the Ministry of Education and Human Development (MINEDH) in Mozambique. Canada's funding is channelled to a multi-donor pooled fund which is the primary source of external funding from donors to MINEDH. These funds are used to finance various government-delivered services to achieve objectives in the Ministry’s Education Strategic Plan 2020-29. The plan aims to improve access to quality education services, especially those targeting girls, young women and children with special needs. The plan explicitly covers six sub-sectors of the education system: pre-primary education, primary education, secondary education, adult education, teacher education and training, and administrative and institutional development. The majority of activities support primary and secondary education. Project activities include: (1) supporting classroom and latrine construction; (2) procuring educational resources such as books, desks, and learning materials; (3) building the capacity of teachers and administrators; and (4) providing educational materials and services to support girls and vulnerable children, such as children with special needs or displaced children.

Expected results

The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) improved inclusive education for girls and boys to complete primary-level schooling; (2) expanded equal access to quality education for girls and boys to stay in and complete secondary schooling to integrate into the workforce and society; and (3) increased percentage of teachers with comprehensive training to educate in a manner that leads to effective student learning.
