Description and results

Description

Iraq was the first country in the Middle East to adopt a National Action Plan on Women, Peace and Security. The expiration of the existing plan is happening in a period of significant transition, given the military defeat of Daesh and the formation of a new national government. It is in this context that this project aims to assess current opportunities for enhancing the effectiveness of Iraq’s next National Action Plan. Project activities include: (1) conducting an assessment of the current environment, including the level of receptivity and commitment among key stakeholders; (2) identifying key points of entry, including within government ministries and civil society; (3) providing materials and tools to key stakeholders in support of the drafting process; and (4) developing recommendations on next steps.

Expected results

The expected outcome for this project is increased capacity of Iraqi stakeholders, including key ministries and civil society organizations, to advance Iraq’s next National Action Plan on Women, Peace and Security.
