Project profile — Land4Life (Sustainable Landscape for Climate-Resilient Livelihoods)

The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) Strengthened land-use governance and policy-making for climate change mitigation and adaptation that benefit the poor and vulnerable populations in selected provinces in Indonesia and reduce emission from Land Use, Land Use Change and Forestry (LULUCF); (2) Improved landscape-level management by land managers and land users for better ecosystem health and services that meet different needs of women and men in priority landscapes within the selected provinces; and (3) Enhanced climate-resilient livelihoods and food security for poor and vulnerable communities, particularly women

Results achieved as of April 2022 include: (1) organised 36 activities, including consultations, workshops, focused group discussions from March 2021 to April 2022. A total of 570 participants (39.6% women) have interacted with Land4Lives team through project activities; (2) carried out stakeholder mapping and capacity development needs assessment in South Sumatera, South Sulawesi and East Nusa Tenggara. This mapping and assessment strengthen the capacity of local government to implement nature-based solutions in addressing climate change (including planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation); (3) selected project sub-landscape areas using science-based analysis and participatory approach. Six landscapes selected include: two peat landscapes (in South Sumatera) and four watersheds (in South Sulawesi and East Nusa Tenggara). Selection process used mapping of supply, demand, ecosystem services, food security and vulnerability, risk of flood and drought; (4) identified vital information needed to understand and strengthen farmers’ livelihoods and food security at the local level, through consultative meetings with district authorities and community forums; and (5) made initial identification of finance, poverty alleviation and market systems development programs for South Sumatera, South Sulawesi and East Nusa Tenggara.
