Description

This project seeks to increase global health programming effectiveness, including sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) programming. The Canadian Partnership for Women's and Children's Health (CanWaCH) implements this project. Project activities include: (1) hosting online knowledge exchange fora and an interactive database of international projects; (2) identifying Canadian experts to support improved measurement of results for Canadian efforts in developing countries; (3) promoting international standards in tracking and measuring results and facilitating related training opportunities; (4) supporting collaboration among organizations, including civil society organizations, academia and the private sector; and (5) providing Canadians with information on reproductive, maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health through public engagement and/or outreach activities. The project expects to benefit the CanWaCH membership of over 90 Canadian organizations working to improve women's, adolescents' and children's health in developing countries; ultimately benefiting women, newborns, children and adolescents targeted by the CanWaCH membership programming.

Expected results

The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) improved use of data and evidence for gender transformative global health and sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) programming, decisions and performance monitoring by the Canadian Partnership for Women's and Children's Health (CanWaCH) members, including sex and age disaggregated data; (2) enhanced sharing of evidence, tools and lessons learned among CanWaCH members involved in gender transformative global health and SRHR programming; and (3) sustained support and informed action by Canadians, especially youth, for gender transformative global health and SRHR issues.

Results achieved

Results achieved as of March 2024 include: (1) improved the stability and upgraded the database of the Project Explorer platform, increasing the partner’s ability to produce analytics using higher-quality data, resulting in 77.8% of CanWaCH member organizations using this tool to inform their work; (2) funded the implementation of three projects through the Canadian Collaborative for Global Health initiative. These projects are tackling urgent data challenges in sexual and reproductive health, gender and nutrition data gaps, and incubating potential solutions using multi-sectoral partnerships; (3) hosted the CanWaCH Academy event in May 2022, a week-long series of consolidated learnings focused on equipping members and sector partners with the knowledge, skills, and capacity strengthening tools they required. Overall, CanWaCH welcomed over 1,000 participants, 24 speakers across 11 separate sessions; (4) delivered Gender Equality Training Modules to representatives from 64 Canadian organizations working in global health. This training increased their capacity to deliver gender-transformative and rights-based approaches through their respective programming; (5) organized eight roundtables with key partners, political figures, and academics. These events help increase the ability of CanWaCH member organizations to engage in knowledge exchange opportunities focused on gender transformative, climate-conscious health programming. This includes the Global Health Roundtable in June 2022, the roundtable between Minister Sajjan and CanWaCH’s representatives from the Youth Working Group during the International Development Week 2023, and a roundtable prior to the Women Deliver international conference in Rwanda in July 2023, reuniting key Canadian partners with Minister Sajjan and other Canadian officials to help coordinate Canada's participation and priority messaging during the conference.
