Description and results


This project seeks to increase the capacity of Tajikistan to detect and deter the smuggling of nuclear or radiological materials. Specifically, it will support Tajikistan’s Border Guard Service, the State Committee for National Security, and the Customs Service with securing the eastern portion of the Tajik-Afghan border by (1) providing radiation detection equipment; (2) integrating surveillance systems at bridge border crossings and along frontier border; and (3) providing related equipment operational and maintenance training,

Expected results

The expected outcome of this project is the improved monitoring and investigation by Tajikistan of pedestrian and vehicular traffic for illicit trafficking of nuclear or radiological materials and suspicious packages.
