Description

This project contributes to the respect of the right to health, including sexual and reproductive rights of women and girls affected by the conflict in the Centre-Nord region of Burkina Faso. The project contributes to the COVID-19 epidemic preparedness and response plan in Burkina Faso. It aims to build the capacity of healthcare systems in the Centre-Nord region of Burkina Faso to better respond to the pandemic and help prevent and manage future epidemics. Projects activities include: (1) building the capacity of health workers to respond to epidemics, including COVID-19, and to undertake communication activities in communities. This is to reduce local transmission as part of an integrated response to infectious diseases; (2) providing technical assistance to health authorities to respond to and manage epidemics, including COVID-19; and (3) supporting vaccination campaigns in the project area, particularly against COVID-19.

Expected results

The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) improved equitable access to quality primary healthcare, including sexual and reproductive health. Beneficiaries are conflict-affected populations in the Centre-Nord region of Burkina Faso, in particular women and girls; and (2) improved social and community environment in favor of the right to health. This concerns, in particular, sexual and reproductive rights and gender equality for women and girls in the Centre-Nord region of Burkina Faso.

Results achieved

Results achieved as of March 2023 include: (1) distributed 72 infection prevention and control kits to health facilities; (2) 6 out of 12 health facilities assessed offer quality primary health care. This was achieved while respecting the rights to safety, including infection prevention, confidentiality, and non-discrimination; and (3) trained 31 healthcare providers, including 14 women and 17 men, in epidemic management and preparedness for rapid health responses during humanitarian emergencies.
