Description and results

The project aims to support the national government and all stakeholders in Chad to facilitate and undertake an inclusive and credible political transition process. The activities of this project include: (1) the organization of a credible and peaceful referendum on the final draft of the national constitution; (2) the organization of national presidential and legislative elections in a credible and peaceful manner; (3) the facilitation of negotiations and participation of armed groups in the inclusive national dialogue process; (4) the capacity building of local stakeholders (including women, youth, and people with disabilities) and representative bodies to provide appropriate input and take their advocacy to the national dialogue and constitution-drafting bodies; and (5) support to the media to enable them to monitor and provide the public with accurate and useful information on the political transition processes.

Expected results

The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) a new social contract accepted by the people and facilitated by the national dialogue, constitution-making and electoral process; (2) a peaceful transition process; and (3) public confidence strengthened in the national dialogue and in the constitutional bodies/processes.

Results achieved

Results achieved up to March 2023 include: (1) organization of 73 sessions as part of the inclusive and sovereign national dialogue; (2) participation of 2,000 women in conferences and debates during the National Chadian Women's Week. The theme was women's participation in political transition; and (3) implementation of ambitious resolutions to advance women's rights. These include the amendment of the Family Code and the operationalization of the Observatory for the Promotion of Gender Equality. A third is the implementation of the National Action Plan on Resolution 1325 for Women, Peace and Security, following its adoption.
