Description 

The project aims to support the national government and all stakeholders in Chad to facilitate and undertake an inclusive and credible political transition process. The activities of this project include: (1) the organization of a credible and peaceful referendum on the final draft of the national constitution; (2) the organization of national presidential and legislative elections in a credible and peaceful manner; (3) the facilitation of negotiations and participation of armed groups in the inclusive national dialogue process; (4) the capacity building of local stakeholders (including women, youth, and people with disabilities) and representative bodies to provide appropriate input and take their advocacy to the national dialogue and constitution-drafting bodies; and (5) support to the media to enable them to monitor and provide the public with accurate and useful information on the political transition processes.

Expected results 

The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) a new social contract accepted by the people and facilitated by the national dialogue, constitution-making and electoral process; (2) a peaceful transition process; and (3) public confidence strengthened in the national dialogue and in the constitutional bodies/processes.

Results achieved 

Results achieved as of the end of the project (March 2024) include: (1) raised awareness among 4,725,000 people in Chad's 23 provinces on the importance of civic participation in the presidential elections; (2) mobilized 2,000 youths at conference and debates to encourage civic reflection and active citizenship in the run-up to the presidential elections; (3) trained 180 people, including 38 women, to monitor the protection of human rights during the election period.
