Description 

The goal of the project is to contribute effectively to poverty reduction by supporting the policies and programs of Mali’s poverty reduction strategy paper (PRSP). The purposes of the project are an improved access to basic social services; a greater security and growth in household incomes; the promotion of peace and security, good governance, and the rule of law; and the support of Mali’s balance of payments.

Results achieved 

Results achieved as of March 2012 include: The rural organisation Faso Jigi consolidated and strengthened its institutional capacity in terms of managing and monitoring activities; the Ministry of Agriculture improved its monitoring and evaluation system for the collection, analysis, and distribution of data relating to the agricultural sector; rural productive infrastructure development projects (two micro-dams, three market gardens, and five grain banks) were completed in eight vulnerable municipalities in the Kayes and Koulikoro regions. Moreover, the FCD counterpart fund has achieved the following results: commercial links between Mali and Canada are strengthened; improved access to services and more diverse supplies which best meet Malians needs, including improving health services use and supplies, the implementation of the decentralization policy, promoting interventions at the community level, is strengthened; balance of payments, legal services and financial services are improved.
