Description

This project supported the participation of civilians in the recent electoral processes in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). To that end, three decentralized funds were established: Women and Democracy; Civil Society and Democratic Development; and Public Participation and Governance. Through these funds, CIDA supports civic education, the freedom of the press, the defence of human rights, and inter-institutional dialogue between civil society organizations and government institutions. Through the post-electoral period, the project helps to foster a Congolese society that is better informed concerning its individual rights and responsibilities, that actively participates in the establishment of democratic institutions, and that understands the value of a peaceful society that respects human rights.
