Description

The Knowledge Based Policy and Programming project allows CIDA to strengthen knowledge and analysis of development issues in Tanzania related to: governance, poverty reduction, budgetary support, education, health and HIV/AIDS, private sector development, gender equality, and environmental sustainability. This knowledge and analysis is used to further the development of key programming tools for CIDA, such as a Gender Equality Strategy, a Strategic Environmental Assessment and a new Country Development Programming Framework.

Results achieved

Results achieved at the end of the project include: (1) a study on the corporate social responsibility of Canadian companies in the oil & Gas and mining sectors in Tanzania deepened understanding of how extractive companies can improve the lives of communities living around mining sites; (2) the effective integration of gender equality into Tanzanian development programs through the preparation of a detailed gender equality strategy, and a scoping paper focused on the potential to support women’s entrepreneurial activities; (3) completion of a Strategic Environmental Assessment for the overarching Tanzania program provided the necessary information and analysis for better planning, approval, delivery, management, and assessment of Canada’s development programming in Tanzania; and (4) increased donor collaboration through the strengthening of the Tanzania Partners Forum. All of these initiatives delivered useful and needed knowledge and analytical products which resulted in GAC’s strengthened knowledge and analysis of development issues in Tanzania and ensured development interventions were planned and implemented through informed, timely, and effective action for the benefice of Tanzanian beneficiaries.
