Description

The project goal is to improve the harmonization of development assistance to Ethiopia and to increase the effectiveness of poverty reduction programming in that country. This part of the project aims to provide focused support for Ethiopia's implementation of the African Union and The New Partnership for Africa's Development (AU/NEPAD) Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP), and related donor harmonization efforts through the World Bank Multi-Donor Trust Fund for the Rural Economic Development and Food Security (RED&FS) sector working group of the Development Assistance Group (DAG). All CIDA disbursements for this project have been completed and the results of our investment are outlined below.

Results achieved

Results achieved as of the end of the project (July 2014) include: the Secretariat of the Rural Economic Development and Food Security working group and three technical committees (agricultural growth, natural resource management/sustainable land management, and disaster risk management and food security) undertook activities to contribute to full harmonization of activities within the broadly defined agriculture sector; development and upgrade of the Secretariat's project database (www.ethiopian-gateway.com/redfs) including contacts, literature, best practices, and monitoring of implementation of Paris Declaration principles; the preparation of a Policy Framework for Agricultural Development, a key post-activity to the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme; supporting a Government-led medium-term agriculture sector budget/investment review as well as regular annual budget performance review exercises to include tracking of indicators such as Foreign Direct Investment to the sector; a sector-specific analytical report on the Government of Ethiopia’s Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper (PRSP) - the Growth and Transformation Plan 2010-11 to 2014-15; hosting of several analytical, advisory, and knowledge sharing activities, including consultative and knowledge sharing workshops to solicit feedback from stakeholders; and commissioning technical consultancies for joint review and implementation support missions, land administration, dam safety, and disaster risk management. These results contributed to improving the harmonization of development assistance in Ethiopia related to the rural economic development and food security sector.
