Description 

This contribution to a Multi-Donor Trust Fund finances technical assistance and other support related to the planning and implementation of the Productive Safety Net Program (PSNP) in Ethiopia. The PSNP is a major program to provide cash and food for work transfers to approximately 8.3 million chronically food insecure people. It is financed by the World Bank, the European Commission, the UK Department for International Development, the United States Agency for International Development, Irish Aid, the World Food Programme and the Canadian International Development Agency. All CIDA disbursements for this project have been completed and the results of our investment are outlined below.

Results achieved 

Results as of December 2009 include: 1) funding the full-time program's Donor Coordination Team which serves as the central body for program oversight matters by: arranging weekly donor meetings; coordinating regional and national supervision missions;and, providing donor feedback on and getting key documents for the program (reports, official letters, meeting minutes); 2) commissioning various studies and consultations, such as a Food Management Capacity Assessment, an HIV/AIDS assessment, an Impact Assessment carried out by the International Food Policy and Research Institute (IFPRI), a Gender Analytical Study, and an Assessment of Innovative Approaches to Delivering Transfers to Productive Safety Net Program (PSNP) clients; 3) funding consultancies for the Semi-Annual Reviews on the Program's Public Works component and the Public Works Impact Assessment; and, 4) training provided on social protection to Government of Ethiopia implementing personnel.
