Description

March 2014 - The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) leads and coordinates international action to protect refugees and resolve refugee problems worldwide, protect internally displaced persons and those who are stateless, and search for lasting solutions to their plight. With the support of DFATD and other donors, this project provides protection and assistance to refugees, internally displaced people and other vulnerable groups in Latin America and the Caribbean. Project activities include: (1) protecting and assisting 5.2 million internally displaced Colombians, 500,000 Colombian refugees, 100,000 refugees, and other vulnerable groups from the region; (2) providing health, education, and other essential services to refugees in the region; (3) providing local integration, naturalization and other permanent residence solutions, including resettlement; and (4) advocating for improved protection standards throughout the region.

Expected results

The expected immediate outcomes for this project include: (1) increased access to basic services and protection; (2) increased access to health, education and other essential services; (3) increased access to durable solution for refugees; and (4) enhanced protection standards. The expected intermediate outcome is reduced vulnerability of crisis-affected people, especially women and children.
