The initiative aims to address the lack of knowledge of stakeholders with regards to children's rights. The initiative's main objective is to make available working tools to professionals responsible for ensuring the protection of children within the justice system, police stations and community centers (magistrates, police officers and social workers), to build their capacities and to develop new skills and practices in the field of child protection in order to generally improve the protection system in Burkina Faso. Project activities include: (1) conducting an in-depth analysis of the prevailing situation in Burkina Faso with respect to the capacity of the actors targeted by the project in their work with children (girls and boys); (2) implementation of multi-sectoral consultation and coordination frameworks to better support and better care for children with project stakeholders; (3) training and the provision of work aids for professionals that are responsible for ensuring child protection; (4) promoting the integration of child protection courses in the curricula of training schools of targeted professional bodies.

The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) increased number of policemen, gendarmes, judges and social workers trained and equipped to ensure the protection of children in Burkina Faso; and (2) increased number of burkinabè girls and boys benefitting from a safe, legal and social environment more respectful of the principles of protection and child participation.

Results achieved as of March 2021 include: (1) cumulative results from the five years of project implementation (2015-2020) made it possible to directly reach 7,759 professionals from four trades including 865 women (11 , 1%), thus reaching 19,386 indirect beneficiaries, and 1,357,250 children (girls and boys) who now see their rights better respected and are better protected; (2) the finalization of the four operating modes with all of its 42 users satisfied with their relevance; (3) the percentage of workers from all sectors who offer services that are more respectful of the protection and participation principles of girls and boys has been fully achieved, while the establishment and use of operating methods in the implemented sectors was only partially achieved at 61.6%; (4) the project delivered new compulsory courses (295 course hours for eight vocational schools) on child rights and child-friendly practices in five of the eight partner schools; (5) more than 4,433 students passed courses on child rights and child-friendly practices, 6.1% above the estimated number; (6) the percentage of trained interveners who manage cases of children, girls and boys using new knowledge and skills acquired in child rights and child-friendly practices integrating a gender perspective, is exceeded in each sector (93%) and the project has developed, validated and integrated all six training courses; and (7) the expectations for increasing the capacities of interveners in terms of integrating children's rights into their interventions and implementing appropriate practices are exceeded.
