Description

This project aims to enhance the learning outcomes of out-of-school children, particularly Syrian refugee children and youth living in Jordan. It seeks to improve their access to education through the expansion of informal education and life skills training and to ensure formal recognition of their learning achievements. The project also aims to establish pathways back into the formal education system as opportunities arise in Jordan or within the region.

Expected results

The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) improved provision of quality informal education, psychosocial support and life skills training for out-of-school Jordanian and Syrian children and youth; and (2) strengthened pathways back into the formal education system for out-of-school children and youth.

Results achieved

Results achieved as of the end of the project (March 2017) include: (1) 15,167 children were provided with learning support services; (2) 10,687 young people were provided with life skills training such as training on communication, critical thinking, collaborative problem-solving and teamwork; and (3) 9,152 girls and boys were reached with community-based child protection activities. These results were achieved through the expansion of Makani centres, from 150 in 2015 to 239 in 2017. Makani centres are holistic service centres established by UNICEF in Jordan to provide vulnerable children and youth with learning opportunities, life skills training and psychosocial support services.
