Description

The project aims to increase the prosperity of Haitians by improving skills for employment in the Tourism industry. The initiative targets youth, women and handicapped people in the Port-au-Prince and Cayes areas. In addition to traditional tourism, the project seeks opportunities for emerging small businesses, namely inns, small restaurants or restauration services, guided tours, ecotourism, etc. By multiplying expected employment opportunities and providing relevant training programs in select training facilities, the project meets local needs for training diversity, while facilitating inclusive tourism development. This initiative also includes workshops and training programs that raise awareness about environmental issues in tourism and hospitality. Project activities include: (1) create and review training programs that meet entrepreneurial and job market needs; (2) train training facility managers and trainers; (3) create and operate job market integration services for students; and 4) strengthen relationships between training facilities and the private sector.

Expected results

The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) solid organisational management of the training facilities in skills for employment in developing countries of La Francophonie; (2) improved skills for employment training program implementation that integrate environmental issues and meet various entrepreneurial or employment market needs and opportunities for youth, women, men and vulnerable group members; and (3) strong and sustainable collaboration in skills for employment between training facilities and the private sector in developing countries of La Francophonie.

Results achieved

Results achieved at the end of the project (February 2022) include : (1) eight signed collaboration agreements between teaching establishments and private sector businesses in the hotel industry; (2) managers are using 80% of established management elements; (3) 117 students (87 women and 30 men) are trained in diverse pedagogic approaches, notably to integrate students with disabilities into the classroom and to integrate students into the labour market; and (4) 80% of teachers (94 out of 117) reported to have integrated the teaching principles into their training approach.
