Description 

This project supports the Regional Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction in the Americas to mark the first opportunity for governments and stakeholders in the Americas to discuss and agree on a Regional Action Plan. This is to support the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction in the Americas. The Government of Canada will host the Fifth Regional Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction in the Americas in Montreal on March 7th-9th, 2017, with the support of the United Nations Office on Disaster Risk Reduction Regional Office for the Americas. The project supports the participation of stakeholders from the Caribbean to attend and participate.

Expected results 

The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) improved decision-making related to Sendai Framework; (2) increased use of national and regional baseline status of the Sendai Framework; and (3) increased policy coherence between the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Results achieved 

Results achieved as of March 2017 include: (1) held a successful Regional Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction in the Americas in Montreal; and (2) supported the travel of 53 participants from the Caribbean to attend the conference.
