Description 

This project aims to strengthen the engagement and role of women in the Syrian peace process, by building the capacity of the Women’s Advisory Board. The capacity of the Women’s Advisory Board is built through the provision of training, logistical support, guidance, and technical expertise.

Expected results 

The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) the Women’s Advisory Board has increased capacity to advocate and negotiate in the peace process; and (2) the importance of women’s participation in the peace process is recognized in negotiations.

Results achieved 

Results achieved at the end of the project (May 2018) include: (1) supported the agreement of one set of Women’s Advisory Board bylaws that provide working principles and structure; (2) 30% quota for women’s participation in future governance structures agreed by the Syrian Opposition High Negotiations Committee; and (3) supported the formation of 4 negotiation working groups to address critical issues. This includes political transition, elections, constitution, counter-terrorism, security sector reform, and confidence-building measures and security.
