Description

This grant represents Canada's institutional support to the International Aid Transparency Initiative (IATI). IATI uses these funds, along with other donors' funding, to achieve its objectives. IATI aims to make information about spending on international aid easier to access, use and understand. Donor countries, developing country governments and non-governmental organizations who have signed on to IATI commit to publishing more timely, comprehensive, and forward-looking information on international development assistance. IATI has developed a common, open, international standard for publishing this information. This grant supports the IATI Secretariat, which maintains the IATI Registry and website; facilitates technical discussions related to the IATI standard, data publication and use; assesses progress on open aid data; and provides technical support to publishers and users.

Expected results

The expected intermediate outcome from the International Aid Transparency Initiative (IATI) is increased publication and use of high-quality data on international development assistance in support of sustainable development. The expected outputs include an increase in the number of organizations publishing aid data in accordance with the IATI standard, an increase in use of IATI data by partner countries, donor agencies and other stakeholders and improvement in the quality and timeliness of IATI data.

Results achieved

Since 2017, 18 new organizations have become IATI members (for a total of 94 members) and the number of publishers has gone from 600 to over 1,000 at the end of 2019. The quality of data published in accordance with the IATI standard also increased steadily; at the end of 2019, 96% of data was published at least quarterly and several publishers had moved to monthly updates. The number of users accessing IATI data through the online D-Portal also increased markedly (53% increase in new users from 2018) following improvements to the portal and outreach efforts; all IATI partner country members had access to IATI data from at least 7 of their 10 largest donors; and donor aid platforms (such as Global Affairs Canada’s own Project Browser) showcase IATI data. In addition, a new IATI website was launched in 2019, including a dedicated section for contents in French.
