Description

Nepal is already among the world's least developed nations and is only beginning to recover from a protracted civil war. The World Food Programme's (WFP) Emergency Operation is providing emergency food rations to 225,000 beneficiaries in 10 target districts in the mid- and far-western hill and mountain regions, which have been identified as severely or highly affected by the winter's drought. The overall objective is to secure lives and livelihoods through to the next harvest in food-insecure, drought-affected communities. Specific aims are to stabilize vulnerability to food insecurity and maintain nutritional status (with special attention to women and children); preserve household assets and mitigate vulnerability through the creation or rehabilitation of basic community assets; and prevent mass migration (and a possible increase in the number of female-headed households).
