Description

Heavy rains have caused severe floods and landslides throughout the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), particularly nine central and northern provinces, as well as the capital, Pyongyang. More than 170,000 people have been made homeless and 960,000 affected. Major damage has been sustained to key transport and communications infrastructure, medical services, power supply and crops. CIDA's contribution is used to help the World Food Programme (WFP) to address the needs of people affected by the floods in 37 flood-affected counties. Activities focus on the procurement and distribution of basic food baskets of wheat flour, soya beans, vegetable oil and sugar to the most vulnerable populations. The operation is expected to reach an estimated 215,000 beneficiaries.
