Description

Despite elections in 2006 and an overall increase in stability in much of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), the situation remains volatile in the eastern part of the country, particularly in North Kivu. It is estimated that some 1.3 million people remain displaced in the country. Due to the fighting in North Kivu, the Rwenzori area has seen a high number of displaced persons, which in turn have led to acute shortages in water supply and sanitation among the displaced and in host communities. This project improves the health of 90,000 women, 60,000 men and 120,000 children in Rwenzori, North Kivu, with a range of health and water/sanitation-related activities. Activities include rehabilitation of water systems and latrines, and hygiene promotion.
