Description

Despite various peace agreements signed over the past few years, Sudan continues to face several humanitarian crises due to conflict. In South Sudan, need remains high as nearly 3 million people continue to return to a land bereft of even the most basic infrastructure and must now rely on the humanitarian system for food, water, medical care, and shelter. With CIDA support, World Vision Canada aims to provide improved access to water and health services for 45,660 returnees, internally displaced populations and poor and vulnerable resident communities living in five villages in Baw Locality, Blue Nile State. In total, the project permits that five boreholes are drilled and fitted with hand pumps, 100 latrines are installed in family homes, one water yard is established for supply of 150 households, one health clinic is completely rehabilitated and stocked with basic equipment and medicines and health staff intensively trained. In addition, local communities aim to be trained to manage and maintain water systems and the health clinic, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, and to link hygiene and health practices to disease prevention.
