Description

The intensification of armed conflict between Pakistani armed forces and armed groups during the months of August and September 2008 have left hundreds of thousands in need of emergency humanitarian assistance in Pakistan. Initial estimates indicate that over 200,000 people have been displaced due to the violence. CIDA's contribution is used to help the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) supply 10,000 affected households with essential household items and food rations for one month, and to install or enhance water and sanitation facilities for up to 50,000 internally displaced persons. In addition, basic medical services for the displaced is reinforced through the provision of surgical and medical materials, technical support and on-the-job training by the ICRC and their surgical teams. The project is expected to improve the health and physical security of 60,000 conflict-affected individuals.
