Description

A powerful tropical storm drenched Yemen with heavy rains in late October, resulting in severe flooding. Between 20,000 and 25,000 people were displaced, and up to 650,000 people were affected in some way, primarily in terms of the damage done to local agriculture. The UN launched an appeal seeking US$11.5 million (approximately CAD$14.2 million) to provide relief aid to affected populations. The IFRC's activities focus on the provision of food and essential non-food items, temporary shelter, first aid and referral services and the provision of clean water and sanitation.
