Description

Ongoing conflict in Sudan has left millions in need of humanitarian assistance. Overall, more than 5.2 million Sudanese are internally displaced. In Darfur, an estimated 4.2 million people are reliant on international aid due to an ongoing conflict between government forces and rebel groups. In many areas, particularly in Darfur where fighting continues between government and rebel forces, security is a paramount concern. Road travel is both difficult and dangerous, severely hampering the efforts of humanitarian workers seeking to help those in need. With CIDA support, the United Nations Humanitarian Air Service is providing safe, reliable, efficient, and cost-effective air transport for humanitarian agencies operating in Sudan. In addition to carrying passengers, the service is transporting light cargo, such as medical supplies and equipment, and providing timely evacuations for medical, security and casualty needs.
