Description

There are almost 4 million persons of concern to the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Central Africa and the Great Lakes. These include some 1.1 million refugees and 1.7 million Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) who remain in need of humanitarian assistance. CIDA's contribution is used to help UNHCR find durable solutions for Angolan, Burundian, Congolese and Rwandan refugees, for example, through voluntary repatriation and local integration. Resettlement is also being pursued for individuals and groups of refugees with specific protection needs, or in cases where return to countries of origin and local integration is not feasible. In 2009, some 270,000 refugees are expected to benefit from these durable solutions.
