Description

September 30, 2009 - Kenya currently hosts hundreds of thousands of Sudanese and Somali refugees in two camps in the North-East of the country. This number is expected to increase significantly over the coming months, resulting from instability and chronic food insecurity in Somalia. The refugee population in Kenya is entirely dependant on WFP for its food needs, given that Somali and Sudanese refugees in the camps are prohibited from engaging in agriculture and other economic activities. CIDA’s contribution is helping the World Food Programme (WFP) to address the food aid needs of Somali and Sudanese refugees in camps in Kenya through this emergency operation.
