Description

October 9, 2009 - Typhoon Ketsana hit the central part of Vietnam on September 29 with wind gusts of up to 160 km/h. It was the strongest typhoon to hit Vietnam since 1999. As of October 9, the human toll of Ketsana in Vietnam was 170 dead, 14 missing, and up to 3 million people affected of whom more than 150,000 have been left homeless. This project provides supplies and materials for improving health and hygiene and assuring the physical security of 2,500 households in Kon Tum province, one of the worst disaster-affected areas of Vietnam. This assistance is provided by CECI field teams working in coordination with local authorities and local organizations such as the Women's Union. Activities include the distribution of non-food item kits including household and hygiene supplies, and the provision of locally appropriate emergency shelter materials and tools.
