Description

The Central African Republic is a large, landlocked country that has one of the lowest Human Development Index rankings in the world (179 out of 182). The main factor holding back development is socio-political instability in connection with the repeated coups and armed conflicts that have affected the country since the 1990s. There is currently a peace process in place, and presidential elections are scheduled for 2010. The process has been slow, however, and despite the progress, there is continued conflict in the north and southeast of the country. This project aims to save lives and protect livelihoods of vulnerable groups in the Central African Republic, through the provision of food assistance to over 360,000 beneficiaries.
